MTC Week 5/6

Buongiorno,

I’ve made it through pretty much all of the MTC! I have just Saturday and Sunday left! It has been amazing and I’ve learned so much. I can’t wait until I’m in the field, but I’m going to miss the amazing spirit that prevails here.

This week we taught other companionships as if they were investigators. It was kind of weird at first, but also really fun. Two of our investigators were “college roommates” that struggled a lot with the Word of Wisdom and the law chastity. They were tough to teach, but it was great practice for the field.

On Thursday we spent the whole day in an infield training seminar. We learned a few new things in during the seminar like how to set certain lesson teaching goals and how to tell what needs improvement in the based on what the area book says. Overall it seemed a little longer than it needed to be, but maybe that is just because I’m so excited to leave for the field.

Besides those things, not much has happened this week, but I want to leave you with my testimony. I know that this church is true and that it was restored to this Earth through Joseph Smith. It is centered around Christ, and I know that through Him we can repent and be redeemed from our sins. God is our Heavenly Father, and He loves us all as His children.

Ether 12:27 says, “And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.”

This is so important to remember. When we face struggles in our life, when we feel insufficient, or when we feel overwhelmed we can always remember that Christ has suffered all this and more for us. He can always relate to our struggles, trials, and pains.

When we face the unavoidable trials in our life we can always remember D&C 121:7,8 “My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.”

I say this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Salute! Next time I email I’ll be in Italia!

P.S. Sorella Riley say hi to Sorella Russell, Sorella Reeber, and all the Romanian Missionaries for me, and Buon Fortuna in il MTC!

MTC Week 4/5

Buongiorno!

I’m one more week closer to leaving for Italy. My zone leaves in 10 days except for the Romanian Elders who got here the week after us. This week was pretty low key. I’m starting to get into a rhythm here, too bad it’s all going to change in a week haha.

On Sunday, I had the chance ot give a lesson during our Priesthood meeting. It was on the importance of teaching repentence and baptizing converts. It was so cool to get to prepare and give a talk on the importance of using the Atonement of Christ on Easter. I learned a lot myself on the importance this has to our purpose as missionaries. Essentially, it is our whole purpose, to invite people take part in the Atonement and repent and be baptized in his name.

This week, I also changed my attitue to goal making. I wrote up a goal sheet with all my scripture study, language study, and personal goals that I plan to achieve both before I leave the MTC and while I’m in the field. I also learned a new trick to better my planning and study for lessons. It really helps to identify a specific invitation that will most help them come progress, and then from there, focus the way you teach your lesson on that specific invitation. Doing this has really helped me better apply the missionary purpose to my lessons.

I had a chance to play my violin on easter for sacrament meeting. I played a beautiful arrangement of “That Eastern Morn” with one of the sisters in the zone playing piano. It was such a beautiful piece. I am so excited to get to share the spirit with the people of Italy through my violin playing.

I am so excited for to leave for the mission field May 1. we got our fligt plans, and we will be departing the MTC at 4:20 AM we will have a 2 1/2 hour layover in NY and then we will arrive in Rome at 8:40 AM. These six weeks went so fast!

Salute,
Aziano Findlay

P.S. Happy birthday Caden!

MTC Week 3/4

Buon Giorno!

Time is just flying by here! Starting Monday I will be exactly 2 weeks away from leaving for Italy! I am so excited for the next few weeks. From what I’ve heard it is weeks 4 through 5 where I’ll really notice the biggest improvement in my language ability.

This past week I had the opportunity to host incoming missionaries. It was really cool to see people that had the same emotions that I had when coming in. Now I get to be the one who can guide and direct those who feel like uncomfortable. Seeing the new missionaries coming in is really great, because they are all so excited to be here and ready to serve. One of my friends from my mission prep class came in this past Wednesday. He is serving in Turkey and will be spending 9 weeks in the MTC. It was fun to catch up with him and see how excited he was to be serving the Lord.

This week I really saw the gift of tounges in action. During one of our lessons we were teaching on The Plan of Salvation and Atonement of Christ. My companion and I shared our testimonies and experiences with our investigator. At first we started out slow and shaky as we fumbled around for the right words to use, but as we went on we began to speak with much more ease. We still weren’t perfect, but we were able to say what we needed without too much thought. It was as if the words I needed to say just came to mind when I needed help.

I’m so glad to be here, and I know the Lord called me to Italy for a reason. I am so excited that I will be there so soon!

Ciao!

P.S. Grandma and Grandpa Findlay, Linda, Lucy, Mom, Dad, and Mikayla, thank you so much for all the Easter treats and for the wonderful cards you have sent me! I really appreciate the thought you have put into them.

Second Week

Buon Giorno!

Time is flying by, yet I feel like I’ve been here for way more than 2 weeks. It is amazing what the Lord can do to change us and build us up in so little time. I can now pretty much teach an entire lesson in Italian, and I can have a basic conversation in Italian. It is amazing what one can learn in a language when they have the aid of the Holy Ghost and when they are learning that language for the purpose of inviting others to come unto Christ.

We finished teaching our first “investigator” who was actually just one of our teachers acting as an investigator. It was actually really cool because our investigator, Francesca, was actually based off of a real investigator that our teacher Sister Russell taught while she was on her mission in the Milan, Italy Mission. We now have two new “investigators” played by both our teachers. While teaching them I’ve been amazed at my ability to answer questions and form sentences in Italian. I am actually really starting to enjoy teaching in Italian even if it can be frustrating sometimes.

On Monday our zone along with one of the French speaking zones had an amazing experience. We were supposed to have a workshop about learning languages, but our teacher forgot to show up because she thought it was scheduled for Wednesday. After singing hymns for about half of the time that was scheduled for the workshop, we decided we should try and do something that would be more productive. One Elder suggested we pray and wait for inspiration. We prayed and then had a moment of silence to reflect the on what we should do. A thought came to my mind that we could have a mini testimony meeting. When another Elder got up he said he was feeling the same prompting. In fact over half of the room felt the same prompting. It was amazing to see such an amazing example of the Holy Ghost and what can happen if we have faith that our Heavenly Father will bless us. The following testimony was one of the most powerful and spiritual that I have been in. The MTC truly is an amazing place, because it is a place where everyone you meet is a valid Temple Recommend holder. The amount of spirit that that brings is nigh incomprehensible.

It is truly amazing to be here. I am so excited to continue learning and growing in the spirit. There are so many amazing Elders and Sisters here that it is impossible not to make friends and feel the spirit while here at the MTC.

Anziano Findlay

P.S. Happy late Birthday Allison!
